Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Update 05/05/2020

Yesterday we received a report from our Health Director of two additional positive test results for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) involving Windsor Locks residents. Today, we learned of two more positive test results. The ages of the people involved was not reported but all four cases involve residents of Bickford Health Care Center on Main Street. One of the cases reported last week also involved a resident of the same facility.

I have let the administrative staff at Bickford know that the Town of Windsor Locks stands ready to assist our neighbors there in any manner they may request. Bickford Health Care Center is a highly regarded facility and its capable staff is doing everything it can to manage the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Family members of Bickford residents are advised to direct any inquiries to the Bickford Health Care Administrator at 860 623-4351 or to the Connecticut Department of Public Health at 860-509-7552, which has direct oversight over long term care facilities.

No additional deaths as a consequence of the disease have been reported by our Health Director. All reports are based on data collected by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. These additional cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases involving Windsor Locks residents to forty-nine and the total number of those cases resulting in a death remains at five.

Windsor Locks citizens are asked to do all they can to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. According to the health department, we have entered a period of widespread community transmission, which means that we should not assume that the reported cases are the only infected people within our community.

Residents should follow the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Responsible citizenship requires that we take all needed steps to limit the spread of COVID-19.
