Town of Windsor Locks

The Town of Windsor Locks is committed to serving the needs of our citizens under all circumstances. Although the circumstances presented by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) are unusual, and in many ways unprecedented, our municipal officials and staff will continue to perform all public functions to the best of our abilities. Effective immediately, we are implementing some temporary modifications to our usual practices so that we may continue to perform our public functions in a manner that reduces the risk of transmission of Coronavirus to the fullest extent possible. Unless otherwise noted, all temporary closings and cancellations are through Saturday March 28, 2020.

Schools. Per order of the Superintendent, all Windsor Locks Public Schools will be ​closed for at least two weeks beginning on Monday, March 16, 2020 for all staff and Tuesday, March 17, 2020 for all students​ (since Monday was a scheduled non-student day).   During this ​closure all school buildings will be closed and all extra-curricular events, including Spring sports practices are cancelled to create social distancing to limit the potential spread of COVID-19​.

Arrangements have been made to ensure that all students who rely on meals provided by WLPS for all or a portion of their daily nutritional needs will continue to have healthy meals provided to them. More details regarding the distribution of meals to our students will be published shortly by WLPS staff.

Police, Fire, Ambulance and Paramedic Services. All public safety services will remain fully operational. If you have an emergency, please dial 911.

Senior Services. Our Senior Citizens Center has been closed to members of the public. All recreational, social, exercise and other programs are cancelled.   Meals on Wheels Service will continue as scheduled. Seniors who regularly attend the Senior Center for the Daily Meal Program will be provided with their meals on a Grab and Go basis at the Senior Center.   Please call 860-627-1425 for information regarding meals for Seniors.

Senior Transportation. Our Senior Transportation Service for citizens who are disabled or over the age of 59 years will continue as usual. Rides may be arranged by contacting the Transportation Office at 860-627-1426.

Library. The Windsor Locks Library will remain closed following its close of business on Saturday March 14, 2020.

Public Works, Trash and Recycling Services. Our Public Works staff will report for duty as usual and all trash and recycling removal service will continue on their normal schedule. The Public Works Department on Stanton Road will be closed to members of the public but staff will be available by telephone at 860 627-1405.

Town Hall Offices. The Town Hall will remain open. However, members of the public are STRONGLY requested to conduct as much business as possible by telephone, email, online or to defer municipal business to a later date. If a visit to Town Hall is necessary, please call the involved town office in advance to arrange a time for your visit. A staff directory will also be available in the main foyer of town hall to contact the involved town office to announce your arrival, which we suggest you do using your cellular phone, although other means will be provided.

Department of Social Services. The Windsor Locks FoodShelf will remain open on its normal schedule on a weekly basis on Thursdays from 2PM until 6PM. Proof of residency and income are required. Food will be delivered to the recipient outside of the Town Hall so please contact the Social Services office at 860 627-1446 upon arrival. Thanks to the generosity of our citizens, the FoodShelf pantry is well-stocked at this time and we will not be accepting donations of food until further notice. Cash donations by check or money-order will continue to be gratefully accepted.

Park and Recreation. All programs cancelled until further notice. The Town Hall Gym is closed.

Youth Services. All programs cancelled until further notice.

Building Department. Will remain open. The public is strongly encouraged to file permit applications online: www.windsorlocksct.org

Tax Office. Will remain open. The public is encouraged to obtain tax information and make payments online: www.windsorlocksct.org

Town Clerk. Will remain open but the public is asked to defer business to a later date if possible. For essential in-person visits please contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 860 627-1441

Public Meetings. The Chairmen of all Windsor Locks Boards, Commissions and Agencies are strongly encouraged to postpone all meetings which are required by law to be open to members of the general public until further notice. No town facilities will be available to conduct said meetings.

Gatherings. Employees shall conduct all business by telephone or email whenever possible. Employees or visitors to town buildings shall limit in-person gatherings to no more than three persons.
