Public Works Department

The Public Works Department office is now open limited hours to issue compost site permits and for contractors who need encroachment permits.   The limited hours for permits in May are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from  8am – 12pm.  Fridays by appointment only.

Residents who need to pay for mattress or freon removal are encouraged to pay by check or money order and use the drop box located in front of the yellow gate at 6 Stanton Road.

Residents may come to the Public Works Garage on Saturday’s to recycle certain items.  Recycle hours are 8am to 12pm.  Residents may recycle household electronics, batteries, scrap metal, CFL and Fluorescent light bulbs, unmixed used motor oil and antifreeze.   Small amounts of flattened cardboard will be accepted if there is room in the container.  Residents who wish to recycle must check in with the attendant on duty before dropping off items.

Other business may be handled by telephone or email.  If your call isn't answered right away, please press ZERO and leave a message.  Calls and emails will be answered within 24 hours excluding weekends and holidays.

The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of town buildings, town garage, WPCA, sewerage, streets, rights of way, parks, public lands, drainage, compost site and the collection of waste and recycling. The umbrella of Public Works includes the staff of highways, parks, facilities, and WPCA.

Refuse and Recycling Information

The Town does not own or operate vehicles necessary for the pick up and removal of Municipal Solid Waste or Recycling.  All American Waste is the Private Hauler used for these services.  All American Waste can be reached at (860) 289-7850.
