Job Title: Lock tender (Main Street Community Steward)

Summary:
Originally, the Connecticut River Company (now the Windsor Locks Canal Company) engaged a lock tender to manage the passage of boats through the Windsor Locks Canal. A lock tender had to be reliable and friendly. The position grew into one of great local honor and importance as the lock tender was essentially the ambassador of Windsor Locks to the hundreds of boatmen who passed through the canal annually.
Today, the Lock tender will serve as a downtown Windsor Locks steward, helping to keep downtown Windsor Locks tidy, friendly and welcoming to residents, shop owners and visitors. This is currently funded as a seasonal position, entirely through Downtown Tax Increment Financing District revenue.
Responsibilities:
- Greet residents, shop owners and their employees, and visitors with professionalism, enthusiasm, and energy.
- Litter pickup and disposal.
- Tend to street tree beds.
- Report problem spots.
- Report encroachments and dumping activity.
- Receive neighborhood complaints, seek to respond, or refer to appropriate resources.
- Answer basic questions regarding the downtown district.
- Other duties as assigned, seasonal projects

Responsibilities include but not limited too:
Under the General Supervision WPCA/Superintendent/Director of Public Works
Essential Duties & Functions:
- Day to day operations for WPCA facility
- Ensuring facility is safety operated in compliance coordinates and conducts training
- Maintains accuraterecords/required by dept & DEP requirements
- Plans work Schedules and personnel
Supervisory responsibilities:
- Oversees work performed by and job performance of subordinate workers/seasonal
Preferred Education And/or Experience:
College degree preferred
valid cdl class b drivers lic, with air brake tanker endorsements
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Extensive knowledge of the method and equipment usual to wastewater collection and the treatment and the practices required to operate a class Iv treatment facility.
State of Ct Class IV Wastewater Treatment Operators Certificate

QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to the community.
Proven ability to work as a self-starter and team member.
Demonstrated strong judgment and integrity.
Ability to lift full trash collection bags.
Ability to follow directions and work independently.
Up to 35 hours per week. Non benefited non union
