Position Title: ​Mechanic

Department:   ​Public Works

Position Type ​FULLTIME Non-exempt Employee/Bargaining Unit-NAGE-Local RI-177

Reports to:        Director of Public Works

Rate of pay:​29.00 per hour 40 hour work week per nage current contract

Responsibilities include but not limited too:

Works under the General Supervision of the Director of Public Works

Essential Duties & Functions:

Diagnosis’s, maintains and repairs; trucks, automobiles, heavy equipment and other equipment as assigned.Inspects vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately. Inspects vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade. Conducts routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity. Schedules future maintenance sessions and advises operators on good vehicle use. Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks). Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job. Keep logs on work and issues. Maintain equipment and tools in good condition


As required oversees work performed by and job performance of subordinate workers.

Preferred Education And/or Experience:

Graduation from trade school with two years experience or five years employment as a mechanic of heavy equipment/vehicles. Certifications are preferred.


Strong analytical ability, including the ability to make decision in working toward assigned objectives, modifying work methods and standards to meet variations in controlling condition.  Must have significant knowledge of mechanical equipment and testing equipment. Must be resourceful, and self-motivated.  CDL with Tanker and Air Brake Endorsement.

Salary: 120,000 -140,000 range with experience nonunion benefited position

Education: Bachelor’s Degree, in Business Administration or its equivalent. Experience in the public sector is highly desirable.

Duties: Under direction of First Selectman, oversees Finance Department and will provide information and analysis of annual budgets and projections of expenditures and revenue; to work closely with, prepare reconciliation and supply information to Town’s appointed auditor, financial advisor, bond counsel and bank representatives; Incumbent should understand the different basis of accounting and be able to work with computerized spreadsheets. Maintain financial records and documentation for grants. To provide supervision over employees of the Finance Department rendering Financial Services. Performs all other appropriate assigned duties not limited to contents herein.

SUMMARY:  Under the supervision of the Superintendent or designee, performs a variety of routine office tasks such as filing, data entry, answers telephones, email and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.  This is a full time 35 hour per week Union position.


• Performs a wide range of fiscal duties, including processing of accounts payables, balance of accounts, preparation of reports related to specific accounts, maintaining status of accounts and handles petty cash.
• Uses current software to develop files and databases.
• Collects documents and fees required for permit approval and once approved issues permits.
• Perform all other appropriate duties as assigned.


• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 1-2 years clerical experience
